A man from Pennsylvania in the US used his 9-year old daughter to collect on pre-sales of Girl Scout cookies, which were never ordered or delivered.
Cody Patrick Wylie, 33, was arrested on charges of theft and stolen property after he and his daughter went to over 100 homes collecting money for promised Girl Scout cookies, which he never intended to deliver. He has since been jailed.
Only 8 out of 100 of the homes filed a criminal complaint, many stating that Wylie had pressured them into pre-paying – something that is not standard in Girl Scout cookie sales. Wylie was also attempting to sell cookies well after the typical Girl Scout cookie sales period.
