Recently, Doritos started a campaign to help raise funds for the ‘It Gets Better Project’– a charity that was created in response to LGBT youth taking their own lives as a result of being bullied. ‘It Gets Better’ supports these young people in effort to show that it does get better.
In order to raise funds, Doritos created a brand of chips called ‘Rainbows’ containing multicoloured Doritos. Whilst Doritos saw a lot of positive support (and even sold out all of their limited-edition Rainbow chips), there were quite a few anti-gay consumers who were outraged and went to Facebook to make their complaints.
That’s where Mike Melgaard, the man behind the unofficial Facebook account ‘Doritos ForHelp’ came into play. He also did a similar thing last month in response to Target’s gender neutral labeling, but found the anti-Doritos comments to much more hateful.
Melgaard, posing as Doritos customer service, flawlessly replied to anti-gay comments left on the Doritos Facebook page. Here are some of our favourites:
