Billionaire Donates $10 Million To Save Humanity From An AI Takeover

A wealthy business entrepreneur has donated $10 million in order to fund Artificial Intelligence research projects to keep them “beneficial for humanity”.

A 44-year-old entrepreneur, engineer, inventor and investor, Elon Musk, donated the large sum of money to fund different research projects to keep AI controllable.

One such study would look at artificial intelligence weapons to decipher how to keep these under human control. And, part of the money will go to funding an AI-specific research centre run by Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Musk is the founder and CEO of SpaceX, CEO and product architect for Tesla Motors, as well as a chairman for SolarCity.

With leading researchers, such as Stephen Hawking, warning about the potential dangers of AI, as robots become more independent from human control, Musk sees the urgency of taking the proper precautions.

Whilst this does not necessarily mean researchers are proposing a “Terminator” type situation might happen, there is a need to research AI safety with the increasingly clever technology.

Musk stated: “Here are all these leading AI researchers saying that AI safety is important. I agree with them, so I’m committing $10m to support research aimed at keeping AI beneficial for humanity”.
